The decision to see a psychologist is a very personal one. It is important to choose a psychologist you can work with and trust. The better the relationship between you and your psychologist, the more you are likely to benefit from psychotherapy.

Having an expert psychologist to work with you in this process is an invaluable asset. This work helps people to enhance and maintain their physical and mental health, and promote honesty, intimacy and fulfillment in their lives.

What Really Happens in a Therapy Session?

Your Psychologist will encourage you to talk about your thoughts. About your feelings and what’s troubling you. Don’t worry if you find it hard to open up about your feelings. Your Psychologist will help you gain more confidence and comfort.

As you go through the therapy process, your Psychologist may ask you to do some “homework” — activities, reading or practices that build on what you learn during your therapy sessions — and encourage you to apply what you’re learning in your day-to-day life.

Your Psycholgist’s approach will depend on your particular situation and preferences.

Krisztina Lurås‘s approach to therapy is with respect, tolerance and deep understanding of our ‘small differences and great similarities’ as people. Central is also working with clients from different backgrounds, ethnic -and cultural affiliation and language.

PSYCHOLOGISTS DON’T GET PAID FOR EVERY HOUR THEY WORK

How much does therapy cost? And why is it so expensive?

A typical employee work about 40-hour a week. The employer pays salary for every hour they work. Psychologists, on the other hand, can only bill for the time they see their clients. Most Psycholgosit don’t manage 40 clients a week.
If they fill up all their time with sessions, they would not be able to organize their clients’ information, market themselves and perform administrative duties.

Imagine if your company only paid you for 25 of the 40 hours you worked each week. You would need to increase your hourly rate to break even.

How Many Sessions Do You Need?

You and your Psychologist can discuss how many sessions may be right for you.

Factors to consider include:

  • Type of disorder or situation
  • Severity of your symptoms
  • How long you’ve had your symptoms or have been dealing with your situation
  • How quickly you make progress
  • How much stress you’re experiencing
  • How much support you receive from family members and other people
  • Regardless of why you are seeking therapy or the type of therapy you are doing, it is important to remember that, ultimately, it is your decision as to when you stop therapy.

Length Of Treatment

If you are unsure about what you need/want by way of length of treatment, you might raise the question with your Psychologist to get his/her thoughts. FIRST THERAPY SESSION

In your first session at Canwillbebetter™, your Psychologist usually ask what you are hoping to get out of therapy. What are your expectations and your preferences for how to proceed. What matters the most for you and what you want to achieve. How would your life be different if therapy was to help you? The Psychologist will ask you about your current and past physical and emotional health to gain a deeper understanding of your situation.
Then, as the psychotherapy work progresses, the Psychologist periodically check in with you to see how you feel the work is going and to what extent you feel your goals are being met.

If you go in prepared and not looking to take a backseat … you will have the most success with your therapy.

AREAS TO COVER IN YOUR FIRST THERAPY SESSION INCLUDE

  • The Psychologist skills, experience and qualifications
  • The approach they take. How might this way of working relate to your presenting issues?
  • Your goals and expectations of counselling
  • If individual counselling is the best way forward, or if couple or family therapy would be more appropriate.
  • Fees, frequency and estimated duration of your work together.
